Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas driver’s license, Texas journeyman plumber license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of plumbing codes
- Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
- Ability to communicate with others in English
Experience:
Five years experience in plumbing field
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes
- Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, et
- Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption
- Receive and complete work orders
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
- Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities
- Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by the Executive Director of Facilities and/or their subordinate
- Operate light truck, including tailer to transport fixtures and equipment throughout district
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
- Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position
- Work rotating “On Call” schedule as required

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and smell. Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate tools and equipment. Occasionally required to work from ladders; exposed to noise from power equipment; and work around gas lines, fumes and toxic chemicals.
Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions and requires frequent districtwide travel.
