Primary Purpose:
Work with athletic trainer to plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of athletic training program for students participating in University Interscholastic League (UIL) athletic programs. Work under the direction of team physician to carry out activities in the areas of prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer
Certification to teach SM I & II (or ability to obtain)
Bachelor degree or higher
Instructor Certification in CPR (or ability to obtain)
National Trainer Certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
This position requires knowledge of all sporting events, anatomy/physiology/kinesiology, and characteristics of various injuries, nutrition, first aid and AED
Ability to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation services
Ability to provide emergency care
Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to apply appropriate treatment to treat student athletic injuries
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and assistants
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- This position is responsible for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, as well as documentation of injuries and care provided to student athletes, insurance information, and physical exams,
- Trainer must be able to use the knowledge described in skill requirements and apply it to the daily work situations in evaluating injuries, determining proper care and rehabilitation, discussing injuries with athletes, parents, coaches and physicians.
- Proper judgement/evaluation must be used in determining type and extend of injury, need for further outside assistance, type and extent of rehabilitation necessary, and ability/timing of student athlete to return to sport.
- Trainer must have the ability to communicate with all parties to ensure proper understanding of severity of injury, intended care and rehabilitation and anticipated recovery period.
- Trainer will also be responsible for all athletic personnel have first aid, CPR and AED certification as well as state mandated concussion training.
Primary Duties
- Assists the Athletic Trainer in injury assessment and evaluation of all athletic injuries for all sports and athletes.
- Provides for the proper emergency treatment of injuries in a prompt and professional manner.
- Determines the need for consultation with a physician and makes appropriate recommendations to coaches and/or parents.
- Cooperates with team and local physicians in administering treatment and rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
- Assists in obtaining and maintaining all releases from attending physicians with regard to the status of the injured athlete
- Cooperates with local physicians in administering a screening program for prospects in the school’s interscholastic athletic programs.
- Possesses and maintains necessary credentials as required by district policy.
- Attends appropriate meetings, seminars, and workshops.
- Keeps informed on current trends in the athletic training fields.
- Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with all athletic coaches, students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, and other staff.
- Appropriate planning and utilization of therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation techniques, and programs.
- Advises coaches on the fit and use of protective equipment.
- Assists in compiling, maintaining, and filing all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documentations including medical, accident, and treatment records.
- Assists in preparing yearly supplies, bids, and orders for administration of the athletic training budget.
- Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by athletic director
- Administers the student insurance programs as it is applicable to athletics.
- Assists in the recruiting and training of student athletic trainers to assist in the athletic training program.
- Teaches athletic training class offered to student athletic trainers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise the work of student assistants.
Equipment Used:
Exercise equipment and devices including stationary bike, pulleys, weights, whirlpool, paraffin bath, ultrasound equipment, and cold packs.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual walking and standing; moderate lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside. There could be Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. There will be Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
Personal Work Relationships
The Trainer reports directly to the Campus Coordinator and must work closely in communication with central office athletic administration. Always keeping administration informed of serious injuries that occur in all sports. The trainer must build positive relationships with the local physicians to gain support needed for the athletic programs in CSISD.
