Primary Purpose:

Direct, coordinate, and monitor custodial services for all district facilities. Establish cleaning schedules and procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

 

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 Knowledge of related federal, state, and local codes and regulations.

 Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.

 Have basic computer skills, able to use district related computer programs.

 Ability to develop custodial schedules and staffing rosters.

 

Minimum Experience:

Five years’ experience in custodial services.

Five years custodial supervisory experience

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicates and supports expectations that are consistent with district objectives. School/organizational Improvement.
  • Helps develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for custodial equipment.
  • Tours buildings to monitor custodial services as needed. Conducts inspections with campus principals or designees as needed.
  • Develops and maintains a system for conducting emergency repairs on critical custodial equipment.
  • Seeks feedback from the teaching staff regarding custodial services provided and shares this with the custodial staff.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of parts/materials necessary to repair custodial equipment.
  • Maintains a balanced budget.
  • Recommends the purchase of equipment.
  • Directs school resources and/or one's professional efforts to address the most pressing student and teacher needs as these relate to custodial areas.
  • Is responsible for all work being performed by custodial personnel; evaluates employees' performance.
  • Assists in coordinating vacation and leave requests of custodial personnel.
  • Monitors the staff time cards and reviews payroll information before submitted to the Personnel Office.
  • Promotes the health, safety and comfort of all employees and students.
  • Reports all injuries and suspected injuries of the custodial staff as per procedures.
  • Develops and implements an approved training program for the custodial staff; conducts new employee orientations.
  • Conducts personnel meetings as needed.
  • Presents the "Right to Know" and "Asbestos" programs annually.
  • Maintains complete records of travel logs and preventative maintenance actions as related to the custodial department.
  • Enforces all district policies and guidelines as these relate to custodial areas.
  • Helps develop and implement custodial schedules to provide more effective service.
  • Submits budget requirements and keeps current on the status of custodial budgets.
  • Assists in the establishment of priorities for custodial services.
  • Keeps an orderly and adequate supply of commonly used supplies.
  • Maintains and performs all inspections in areas of responsibilities.
  • Conducts oneself in a professional and ethical manner, in accordance with generally accepted community standards.
  • Takes the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to custodial areas.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of district/community needs and initiates activities designed to meet those needs
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Operations

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Coordinate the work of all custodians’ district wide.

Perform frequent walk throughs of facilities

 

Equipment Used:

Buffer, stripper, burnisher (propane & electric), wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, and shampooer. Light truck or van. Personal or laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, telephone, electronic mobile devices, and display monitor.

Frequent in-district travel. While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. The employee maybe frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
